SunElektrica

Scope

Hydrolaire Limited, acting as the Developer, and SunElektrica Limited, acting as the Service Provider, have forged a strategic partnership to advance a growing regional clean energy portfolio. Together, they are dedicated to transitioning high-impact projects from their initial conception through to a contractually secured, ready-to-build status. Within this framework, SunElektrica leverages its regional market intelligence to drive project prospecting, stakeholder engagement, land and urban planning authorisations, and critical investment facilitation.

The success of the partnership relies on a clear division of responsibilities to ensure seamless operational efficiency. SunElektrica leads project origination, site exclusivity mapping, local regulatory compliance, lease execution, and overall development phase management. Conversely, Hydrolaire assumes responsibility for the technical design, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) execution, project financing capitalisation, and long-term operations and maintenance (O&M).

A major focus of this collaboration is the development of a Commercial and Industrial (C&I) solar portfolio in Nigeria, targeting up to 17 MWp of rooftop and ground-mounted hybrid solar-PV capacity. Active prospecting is heavily concentrated in major industrial zones, notably the Idu Industrial Layout in Abuja. The partnership aims to provide standardised solutions ranging from 300 kWp to 1.5 MWp, fully integrated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and turnkey O&M services. These systems are explicitly designed to attract leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) corporations, manufacturing setups, and heavy industrial facilities seeking to hedge against the volatile costs of grid reliance and diesel generation.

Beyond Nigeria, the partners are deeply engaged in a large-scale hybrid mini-grid infrastructure expansion programme in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This ambitious initiative spans 60 rural and peri-urban sites with a cumulative target capacity of 300 MWp. The immediate developmental milestone is the 5 MWp Nioki Pilot Project, designated as Phase 0. For this pilot, the collaboration is focused on clearing transaction bottlenecks to unlock a multi-million-dollar blended finance framework supported by commercial debt, performance-based grants, and international development funds.

Looking toward the future of deep decarbonisation, the partnership is also exploring advanced clean fuel infrastructure. They are currently engineering and commercially validating forward-looking green hydrogen and CCUS projects, utilising optimised base-case and optimistic deployment scenarios to secure long-term industrial gas off-take agreements.
